028 What is the
jobs-translators@yahoogroups.com mailing list?
- The
jobs-translators@yahoogroups.com mailing list is a daily
listing of jobs which are published world-wide for freelance and
in-house translators and, to a lesser extent, for
interpreters.
- You can join this mailing list by
sending a BLANK eMail to
jobs-translators-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
- The jobs may be received by
individual eMail or by daily digest according to the settings you
choose at
YahooGroups.
-
029 Who sends job
announcements to this mailing list?
- Clients world-wide.
- Volunteer moderators and managers
around the world who seeing a translation job of interest post it
to the list.
- Translators themselves who do not
handle the particular language pair or who have too much work at
a particular time.
- If you are re-posting a job which
you have seen elsewhere, check that there is no prohibition or
injunction on you to stop you re-posting the job.
- CLEARLY indicate where the job was
advertised originally.
- CLEARLY indicate in the second line
or so of the body text, to whom replies should be sent.
-
030 Is the list for general
translation queries?
- No. Such queries are really not
within the scope of this mailing list.
- The jobs-translators mailing list,
however, is rigorously ONLY for job announements of a
translation nature..
-
031 How do I advertise on
this list a translation job?
- Send an eMail to
jobs-translators@yahoogroups.com
- Put the respective indicator in the
Subject Line, e.g.
[Freelance]
[In-House]
[Interpreter]
- Also put in the Subject Line the
language codes followed by an essential word or two, e.g. DE >
EN (Trados Medical)
- Put in clearly as the FIRST
line of body text, to whom the reply has to go followed by a good
and clear description of the job, e.g. the number of words, the
rate, the deadline and any special requirement.
- If you do NOT give a precise
description of the job,. translators will flood you with
queries.
- If you do not state upfront special
software or tools that the translator needs e.g. PowerPoint for
that particular job, you will lose a lot of goodwill in the
translation community for wasting translators' time and
energy in replying to you needlessly.
-
032 How do I advertise on
this list a translation job?
- If a moderator deems your message to
be chat, discussion, debate, query, advertising, etc. it
SHALL be rejected.
- Only eMails announcing actual
translation or interpreting jobs will be published.
- The moderators and managers do
NOT allow the list to be used by firms or Agencies to fish or
trawl the list for translators or to try and harvest
translators' CVs.
- The job you tried to advertise may
have been a future, possible or potential job, as opposed to an
actual one.
- The list moderators and managers
will also try to avoid publishing those eMails, even of
translation job announcments where there is the view that the
advertiser is trying to take undue advantage either of the list or
of the members of the list.

034 How can I get or find jobs
of specific interest to me, e.g. Spanish?
- There are 2 principal ways to do
so.
- Click on YahooGroups
- Click then on jobs-translators.
- Click on Messages.
- In the Search Box on the Top Right,
put in the language you want, e.g. Spanish.
- Nota bene: Please reply only to jobs
in the recent past. Say, the previous 10 days.
- Click on YahooGroups
- Click on jobs-translators
- Change your settings to Daily
Digest
- In this way each morning, you will
get a single eMail of all the jobs of the previous day. Just
click on those were the particular language, e.g. Spanish or its
ISO-639 Code as it appears in the Subject line of the
message.
- Apply directly to the advertiser for
these jobs.
-
035 Is there a way to filter
languages of interest to me?
- Yes. On almost every eMail system,
there are filters of one form or another. Assuming you have
chosen Individual eEmails, you will have to follow the
instructions of your own eMail package.
- If you do filter, remember to filter
POSITIVELY all the items of interest to you. Put in the
language of interest by ALL its names, ISO-639
Codes and local codes, e.g. German, Deutsch, DE, DT
-
036 Why do I only see half an
eMail contact address in the various messages?
- To read messages on any YahooGroups
mailing list, you must be subscribed to the mailing
list.
- Please go to FAQs
033 and see how to subscribe to the mailing list.
- Do remember that if you have
multiple eMail addresses, e.g @hotmail.com or @yahoo.com when you
read your messages from the other system this
problem arises, unless you subscribe under both your eMail
addresses.
